In the past few years we had the chance to help some dogs that needed to be re homed. These dogs either had behavioural issues or for some reason were not adoptable but we were able to help these dogs through out our volunteer program.

We either fostered these dogs until right homes were found or we worked on them at our daycare.

These are some of their stories.

Sammy –The German shepherd

Sammy was a 3-year-old female German shepherd.

We fostered her because she was living with a family that was not the right family for her. She needed an individual to adopt her and guide her through out her life.

She needed a confident, strong minded, and firm person since she was a powerful breed.

She was a follower and just needed to be told what to do and point out bad behaviors by correcting her to prevent her from repeating them.

She improved tremendously ever since we fostered her.  She needed tons of daily exercise, lots of discipline and a loving family.

She got along well with people and dogs; it was only when she was in a car, which she did what she was used to do. Guarding.

She was not aggressive and liked to play all day. She was also crate trained and healthy.

We were lucky to find her a wonderful home with other dogs that she could play and have a wonderful life.

Ziggy- The Weimaraner

Ziggy, the Weimeraner /Lab X was looking for a home and was ready for adoption. He came to our daycare everyday to brush up on his socialization skills.

He was one of the dogs from Dogwood Rescue Org. Since he was high-energy dog, he needed to burn off some extra energy during the day otherwise he would have destroyed the house, which is why he came to our daycare to use up his energy and to learn some doggy manners.

After a long wait, he found a couple that fell in love with him and they were willing to work on him with help of trainers. He has settled down well now and both the new owner and Ziggy are happy.

Benji – The malti-poo

Benji was a perky 3½-year old neutered male maltese/poodle mix with a bit of an under-bite. He was cute and adorable.

A little while before we foster Benji, his real Mom and Dad had to give him up because his mom got really sick and couldn’t keep him.

When he first came to us, he was really upset after being tossed around. He had always been the only dog and got to call all the shots. So it was pretty unsettling.

He loved hiking in mountains, driving around in a car, but he get excited and just like at home, he couldn’t be left alone in the car.

One thing that made him nervous was being left alone home all day with nothing to do. He had some separation anxiety. We found a permanent home with a lovely lady who will be able to satisfy all Benji’s needs.
