Jonah’s Ark Doggie Playcare was first started in 2006 by owner, operator and dog expert Saro Boghozian, his wife Yoko and their beagle Jonah.Besides offering a fun, highly sought out doggie daycare service, Saro also started training and educating dog owners on how to develop positive, balanced relationships with their dogs.
Since then, their small business has become a tail-wagging success.
“Understanding dog psychology and seeing the world from your dog’s point of view is the first step” says Saro. His play, praise and reward training classes are always full and in high demand as are his private one-on-one training sessions.
“Dogs are intelligent, loyal, social animals that want to succeed, says Saro, and I love helping owners discover the key to working with their dogs without stress and negativity.”
Rather than using treats or gimmicks, Saro’s training method helps owners understand how to use a dog’s natural intelligence to achieve success.
“Formal training is not the only contributor to having a balanced dog, says Saro. Dogs are social animals and playing with other dogs is also an important part of their learning process. Our doggie playcare program is designed to help dogs not only exercise and stay active but to also learn good dog communication skills through play.”
In addition to having received his expert dog trainer certification from “College of Canine Behavioural Science”, Saro is also a member of the Canadian Association of Professional Pet Dog Trainers and does volunteer behaviour consultation with a number of dog rescue organization on the North Shore.
To ensure the best possible on site care, Saro is also certified in Canine First Aid from DOGSAFE.

Yoko was inspired by Jonah the beagle to start her business "Jonah's Ark Products" and to develop personalized Collar ID.
When they were taking Jonah for his walks as a puppy, people would stop and ask his name, age and his sex. They would meet many dogs on each walk. That's when Yoko wished that dogs would wear collars with their name on, so people could see dog’s name just by looking at the collar. She definitely wanted one alike for Jonah.
Since Jonah is a beagle, she knew that he also might follow his nose and may get lost for hours. This is typical with this breed.
On top of that Jonah also had a medical condition that was a bit complicated, so they didn't want him to be lost for a long time if off leashed and distracted. Yoko wanted Jonah to have an ID that could easily be seen and read so that anyone could contact them immediately after he was found. However, when Yoko looked for such a product on the market, she could not find anything like it in Canada, so she decided to make this product herself.
That is how she started her business in April of 2003.Ever since, Jonah’s Ark Products has sold thousands of their personalized products throughout Canada, US, Europe and Asia including Japan. They have even added cat collars, leashes and harnesses for dogs to their line of products.
Because of Jonah's medical condition, Yoko had to educate herself about dogs diet and health in general in order to be able to provide the proper care and diet for her own dog.
After many years of research and study, especially monitoring many dogs' health in her care at the playcare, she has developed a keen sense and knowledge about canine health and diet that she uses at Jonah's Ark and shares it with her clients.
Yoko is also certified in Canine First Aid from DOGSAFE.
Jonah the beagle inspired Yoko to start her business, Jonah's Ark Products and inspired Saro for his great passion for dogs to work with dogs.
Jonah is a beagle that has proved to both Saro and Yoko that any type of dog can become a balanced dog if time, effort and passion are invested. Jonah is well behaved and he can be off leash anywhere, which is not commonly practiced with this breed. He may follow his nose sometimes, but he always comes back.
Saro will use Jonah anytime he needs a feedback from a dog's when running his classes. When meeting new dogs Jonah will tell Saro the new dog's mental condition.
Jonah is the pride and joy for Saro and Yoko. Now Saro and Yoko operate and run Jonah's Ark along with their beagles, Jonah and Harvey. Click here to visit Jonah's own website.
Harvey is the newest member to our family. We adopted him in November of 2010.
He was rescued from a kill shelter, humane society of Utah in Salt Lake City by a West Vancouver based rescue organization “Dogwood Rescue Organization”. He was one of 7 puppies to be euthanized in the shelter. The rescuers had already filled the car with dogs that been saved and were on the line for euthanization. One of the members could not say no to the puppies and had to save one of them at least but there was no kennel space. They selected Harvey because he was small enough to be put on the lap and get him out. He was brought to Vancouver through an amazing network of volunteers. We are proud to be one of them...
